Reporting and rankings

We openly disclose our performance and progress to our key stakeholders both on financial and non-financial performance indicators. Every year, we report on progress in line with the UN Global Compact principles for responsible business practices, and we regularly submit information about our performance to customers and investors via global reporting platforms, such as the Carbon Disclosure Project, Eco-Vadis, SEDEX and FTSE4Good.

Rankings

We regularly submit information about our performance to customers and investors via global reporting platforms, such as the Carbon Disclosure Project, MSCI, Sustainalytics, Eco-Vadis, FTSE4Good, Oekom and Sedex.

As part of the commitment to tackle climate change, Chr. Hansen reports to CDP’s Climate Change Response. CDP promotes transparent disclosure of how companies manage climate change. Companies are ranked based on aspects such as targets, reductions, climate-related risks and opportunities. 

Rank: AA

Chr. Hansen is considered a sustainability leader by MSCI. MSCI measures a company’s resilience to long-term financially relevant ESG risks.​ Companies are assessed based on pre-defined environmental, social and governance risks and how companies respond to and mitigate these risks. 

Rank: Low risk

Sustainalytics evaluates Chr. Hansen as a company with a low ESG risk profile. Sustainalytics measures companies’ exposure to and management of material ESG matters. The risk level indicates the likely impact of ESG matters on the economic performance of a company.

Rank: Silver medal

Being awarded a silver medal, Chr. Hansen is among the 20% best-performing companies in EcoVadis. EcoVadis is a sustainability rating measuring companies’ sustainability performance based on four topics, Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

Chr. Hansen is recognized as a sustainability leader by Corporate Knights. Annually, Corporate Knights publishes a list of the 100 most sustainable companies in connection to the World Economic Forum in Davos. The list is based on several environmental, social, and governance matters. 

Recognized as the world’s most sustainable biotech company

Over the years we have been recognized internationally for our commitment and impact on the sustainability agenda. For the past six years, Chr. Hansen has been listed on Corporate Knights’ Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World. The inclusion on the list was cemented in 2019, 2020 and 2022 when we were ranked respectively no. 1, 2 and 2. In 2023, we were ranked at no. 18.

Our inclusion on the list is a clear result of outstanding engagement among our employees and an acknowledgment of the collaborative partnerships that we have with our customers.

Each year Corporate Knights assess more than 6,700 publicly listed companies each evaluated on a set of environmental, social and governance indicators relative to their industry peers.

UN Global Compact

Chr. Hansen is a member of the United Nations’ Global Compact (UNGC), and we follow its ten principles on human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. Our progress is reported annually through the Communication on Progress.

Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)

Climate stewardship is an integral part of Chr. Hansen’s purpose and strategy. To further strengthen the reporting on climate-related risks and opportunities, Chr. Hansen discloses this information in line with the recommendations of the Task Force for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

Science Based Targets

Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) provides companies with clearly defined decarbonization targets following the ambition of the Paris Agreement. Chr. Hansen’s climate targets are validated by SBTi steering the business toward a low-carbon future.
